Welcome to bhajanapriya

a rasikapriya venture

If you are like me - you enjoy listening to and participating in bhajans. Having minimal - if any - formal training in music, you wish you could do a better job of performing - all those sweet sounding bhajans that sound so deceptively simple but impossible to reproduce.

You try playing it by ear on your instrument - a keyboard or flute but well - to cut a long story short, it is a far cry from the professional rendering on the CD.

Many of you like me have children who are talented and well trained albeit in the Western tradition. Anything resembling Indian Classical music is too far away and will take herculean efforts to take advantage.

This is a project targeting just this scenario. We hope to select many popular bhajans, set them to music and notate them in both Indian and Western styles and offer them to you.

With the notations and some background in music, you can teach yourself to perform these bhajans. We will also provide samples of those bhajans performed by various instrumentalists - mostly amateur - just like yourself - so you can get an aural confirmation of the subtleties involved. Given some diligence you should be able to achieve fairly good results.

For each bhajan the “piece de resistance” is of course the group performance of a bunch of us students under the able direction and guidance of our teacher and the composer of the music Mrs Durga Krishnan.
